There’s nothing like getting back to skating, to illustrate how wildly different “me in skating times” is, from “me when not skating” are.

For the past couple of decades, I’ve been a “black yoga pants and black t-shirt” kinda person.

I”m not goth or anything, but I tend to dress very plain and very comfortable. Nothing that stands out in any way.

Before that? In my younger skating days?

Here, let me show you a photo of my old practice dresses:

Several Brightly Coloured Figure skating dresses laid out on the floor.

I dug these out a few weeks ago, and I loooooove them still.

I was all about the brightest, most obnoxious patterns I could find. The tackier, the better. LOVED it.

Today?

Apparently, I’m still that person… and everyone I’ve met as an adult is probably going to be shocked when they see my favoured choice of skating attire.

Anyway, I’ve been buying ridiculous spandex to get some practice dresses made. Look at these amazing prints!!

Several photos of brightly coloured spandex.

AAAAH I AM SO EXCITED!!!

I’ve already made a few dresses.

My first one has a peacock feather design, which I love… but it’s poly spandex, which I don’t love. Oh well.

A blue sleeveless figure skating dress with a peacock feather design.

Then, there’s all of this gloriousness:

3 brightly coloured figure skating dresses on a table, along with matching scrunchies.

Obviously, everything gets a matching scrunchie!

I never stopped wearing scrunchies, truth be told… but now I get obnoxious print ones to match my obnoxious dresses!

Once a 90s skater, always a 90s skater?

Hey, I'm Marie!

I skated as a kid, and have been making the long, rough road back as an adult.

This time, I have a husband to drag along with me :)

I started back in early 2019, and ran into dual roadblocks in 2020 - the pandemic, and being severely crippled by FOUR PILLS of Ciprofloxacin - an antibiotic that destroyed most of the tendons in both of my feet.

Oh, and pancreatic cancer. Fun stuff.

I've learned to walk again, and in October 2021, I started back. Again.

Here's where I'll chronicle the whole mess!
