You guys. OMG.

I think this marks the end of my #skate drama!!!

It was really looking like custom was my only option, and I was really upset about not only losing my amazing old custom Rose boots, but about ~change~ ( #ActuallyAutistic !), and about having to pay $1200 when my good skates are literally like ¼" away from working.

We were planning to go into Toronto on Saturday to get fitted for customs, but decided to try a more local shop first.

THEY HAD ACTUAL LEATHER SKATES THAT FIT AND FEEL GOOD.

Hallelujah !!!!

Only $400, including the blades. They're an 8' rocker, I wanted 7'... But that's absolutely secondary to the boot at this point.

Being fitted

I know how ridiculously privileged it sounds that the number one stressor in my life these past few months has been skate drama, but it really has been stressing me out.

OMG IT'S OVER.

So we bought the skates, got in the truck to go home, Irene Cara's "What a Feeling" started playing on the radio... And I just bawled.

I'm such a mess!

At least I'm a mess with supportive LEATHER skates that actually fit!

Now I get to go through the whole breaking in period!

Bought myself some fancy glitter guards while I was at it!

Hey, I'm Marie!

I skated as a kid, and have been making the long, rough road back as an adult.

This time, I have a husband to drag along with me :)

I started back in early 2019, and ran into dual roadblocks in 2020 - the pandemic, and being severely crippled by FOUR PILLS of Ciprofloxacin - an antibiotic that destroyed most of the tendons in both of my feet.

Oh, and pancreatic cancer. Fun stuff.

I've learned to walk again, and in October 2021, I started back. Again.

Here's where I'll chronicle the whole mess!
