We took a trip to Figure Skating Boutique today.
I desperately needed new boots at the very least, but was hoping that I could keep my old MK Vision blades, as I really liked them, and they're discontinued.
Hubby needed to get fit for the roller skating boots he bought a while back, used, to make sure they were the right before buying new blades - he's been on crappy recreational ones that don't have much support.
Things started poorly, but went SO WELL by the end.
Hubby's boots fit fine, but they didn't have the blades we wanted for him (Coronation Ace) in his size, and the comparable ones they had were a bigger rocker.
Miraculously, they had a used pair of the Aces in his size! SCORE!
My feet are a bit wider, so limited selection. I did NOT like the feel of the first ones, which was when it was explained to me that skates are no longer made of leather (WHAT?!?!) and are basically plastic.
I was not happy.
Not only am I completely in love with my old boots (Custom Rose, which aren't available anymore)... Sometimes I don't do the best with certain kinds of change (#ActuallyAutistic!) ... And having to go to something other than leather, based on that first boot? Um... It could have been bad.
BUT I was so annoyed by the idea that I tried my old boots on again, and was surprised at how close they were to fitting.
Aside from the length at the toe (it was JUST touching the skate)... It just felt like it was made for my foot.
I mean, it WAS, but it's crazy how comfortable it was everywhere else. Like a Cinderella moment. ... And the salesperson told me they could stretch it FOR LENGTH. Said maybe they could get ½ size, which definitely would be enough! ... I damn near cried.
So we left my skates for overnight stretching. This will be the BEST possible news when it comes to equipment, so my fingers are crossed!
Edit to add
Got my skates back, and it looks like they'll fit!
Edit to add, again
Um... Nope. Actually skating in them proved to be a VERY bad idea. My poor feet!
Here's hoping eventual weight loss will make them fit some day.
