This evening, we decided to go check out the skating at Wayne Gretzky Estates – his winery.

Yes, a winery with a rink. Awesome!

The exterior of Wayne Gretzky Estates

The gift shop was a lot of fun, the bar was really cozy – especially for being a tourist thing. It was weird to feel comfortable in a bar!

My husband loved their lineup, and looooved the decor. We’re not hockey people, but the woodwork was stellar.

… but we weren’t there for the woodwork, we were there for the rink!

As we got outside, people were clearing off for a resurfacing – Bonus! I love fresh ice!

So we bought our ticket and went to the shack to put on our skates.

…. and we did like 2 laps.

Oh my god, I’ve never been on worse ice in my life.

Not on natural ice (rivers, lakes, etc) with twigs and crap in it, not even on that Hamilton rink with rusty crap dropping onto the ice from above.

You know, the rink that smells so heavily of mold that we got sick the next day?

SO disappointing!

Overall we had a great time, but OMFG that ice was terrible. Expected better from “The Great One”!

Hey, I'm Marie!

I skated as a kid, and have been making the long, rough road back as an adult.

This time, I have a husband to drag along with me :)

I started back in early 2019, and ran into dual roadblocks in 2020 - the pandemic, and being severely crippled by FOUR PILLS of Ciprofloxacin - an antibiotic that destroyed most of the tendons in both of my feet.

Oh, and pancreatic cancer. Fun stuff.

I've learned to walk again, and in October 2021, I started back. Again.

Here's where I'll chronicle the whole mess!
