A Note from The Future (November 2021):

I've long loved the song - and music video for it - I chose for my showcase program. It came out when I was still living in the USA, as a Canadian expat, and it was so comforting to me. That's what I've been so focused on, in bringing the program together.

That said, it's hard to ignore RCMP history, and a lot of the recent actions in the news. My grandmother was a residential school survivor, and ... I don't know, this all feels pretty ick to me at the moment.

It was a very lighthearted program - horse head on a stick and all - but it feels pretty wrong now. So, I've made the decision to abandon the program.

Back to the drawing board!

SO, I finally got around to making the costume for my showcase program!

First, this is the song I'm using:

I bought the fabric about a mont ago, a mix of matte and metallic / hologram lycras:

A pile of brown, black, gold, and red spandex fabric.

First up: Tights and LOOONG skate covers. These come up to just under my knees:

A pair of black tights with a gold stripe up the side, and a pair or tall brown skate covers.

Then, it was all of the applique and little bits for the bodice:

Finally, a finished bodice!

Then a finished dress:

The finished Mountie dress

Not bad!

Makeup was a bit of a stressor, because I look terrible in red lipstick. Amazingly, the PERFECT shade happened to show up in one of my subscription boxes this month!

The whole look:

I feel like a Canadian Verka Serduchka, LOL.

Hey, I'm Marie!

I skated as a kid, and have been making the long, rough road back as an adult.

This time, I have a husband to drag along with me :)

I started back in early 2019, and ran into dual roadblocks in 2020 - the pandemic, and being severely crippled by FOUR PILLS of Ciprofloxacin - an antibiotic that destroyed most of the tendons in both of my feet.

Oh, and pancreatic cancer. Fun stuff.

I've learned to walk again, and in October 2021, I started back. Again.

Here's where I'll chronicle the whole mess!
