It’s still 3 months to go until the competition – AH MY FIRST SINCE 1996!!! – but I figure I may as well start on my costumes.

I’ll be making 3 dresses – one for showcase, one for freeskate, and one for dance.

Today I started on the dance dress.

Pieces of fabric cut from lining, beige mesh, and a blach stretch velvet with a glitter design on it.

The base is a glitter velvet I bought back in Minneapolis at a fabric warehouse, figuring I’d use it SOMEDAY.

I’ve had it in a box for well over a decade, and it’s in surprisingly good shape.

Anyway, I got the base dress done, started on the crystalling.

A black and beige figure skating dress, stretched ouf over a board. Crystals have been applied to the front in random lines.

The design doesn’t REALLY go with the music I picked for the dances – Swing and Fiesta – but whatever. First time back, no time to change between them, figure something fairly neutral would be a good idea.

Hey, I'm Marie!

I skated as a kid, and have been making the long, rough road back as an adult.

This time, I have a husband to drag along with me :)

I started back in early 2019, and ran into dual roadblocks in 2020 - the pandemic, and being severely crippled by FOUR PILLS of Ciprofloxacin - an antibiotic that destroyed most of the tendons in both of my feet.

Oh, and pancreatic cancer. Fun stuff.

I've learned to walk again, and in October 2021, I started back. Again.

Here's where I'll chronicle the whole mess!
