The competition is still 8 months away, but I couldn’t help it – I HAD to make the dress for my freeskate program!

I happened across the PERFECT fabric, so obviously I bought it:

Bronze and gold metallic spandex.

I’m skating to 3 pieces from a Doctor Who soundtrack, and I went a bit weird with it.

It’s so ME, though!

(And yeah, I used the same colour scheme as the Dalek Cake that I made for Colin Baker, LOL!)

Here are some progress shots:

A bodice pattern for a dalek themed skating dress.

A bronze, gold, and black dalek themed skating dress bodice, laid out in place.

A dalek themed skating bodice in a sewing machine.

A full top halk of a dalek themed skating dress. Bodice and arms, made from beige, black, bronze, and gold spandex.

Skirt pieces laid out on a work surface.

The skirt is a weird one for a skating dress – it’s a cheerleader-style box pleat, with applique on the top pieces. Each of the underside pleats are made from 3 strips of spandex, serged on edges to force “folds”.

Here’s the finished dress:

A bronze and gold skating dress made to look like a dalek.

Finally, I found the perfect makeup palette for it:

A metallic makeup palette on top of bronze metallic spandex.

… Now that I have the dress and makeup settled, I should probably finish choreographing the program, huh?

Hey, I'm Marie!

I skated as a kid, and have been making the long, rough road back as an adult.

This time, I have a husband to drag along with me :)

I started back in early 2019, and ran into dual roadblocks in 2020 - the pandemic, and being severely crippled by FOUR PILLS of Ciprofloxacin - an antibiotic that destroyed most of the tendons in both of my feet.

Oh, and pancreatic cancer. Fun stuff.

I've learned to walk again, and in October 2021, I started back. Again.

Here's where I'll chronicle the whole mess!
