Isn’t it infuriating when men won’t listen to you – even when you do have way more experience at something – but will take THE EXACT SAME ADVICE from someone else?

Augh!

So my husband got new skates today, finally.

He started out on Jackson Mystiques, which I was not a fan of. The blade is terrible and makes everything much harder to learn, IMHO.

Also, they didn’t really look like they fit (he was fit for them at a skate shop in Minnesota), though he SWORE they did.

We lucked into a $50 pair of used Risport boots at a roller rink. Again, he SWORE these fit, so we bought them.

We found a pair of used Coronation Ace blades that fit the Risports, so that’s what he’s been using.

… but they looked HUGE, and he was super awkward in a way that looked like he was centered weird on the blades.

So I finally convinced him to go in and actually get fit for skates, which we did today.

Two figure skate clad mens feet, next to his running shoes.

Surprise, surprise… his Jacksons were a full size too big, and the Risports were like 1.5″ too long. No wonder he couldn’t get on his rocker, yikes!!

We went with Jackson Freestyle Fusion.

They’re not the leather boots that *I* am set on, but as he’s never skated before, he’s not going to have that level of snobbishness. He likes the new skates, especially the soft finish – almost like a suede?

A man wearing black figure skates.

In other news, the shop had one of Elvis Stojko’s boots on hand, which was very cool.

A two part image showing a white, red, and black skate... and a woman holding it up, peering from behind.

Religious artifact!

Hey, I'm Marie!

I skated as a kid, and have been making the long, rough road back as an adult.

This time, I have a husband to drag along with me :)

I started back in early 2019, and ran into dual roadblocks in 2020 - the pandemic, and being severely crippled by FOUR PILLS of Ciprofloxacin - an antibiotic that destroyed most of the tendons in both of my feet.

Oh, and pancreatic cancer. Fun stuff.

I've learned to walk again, and in October 2021, I started back. Again.

Here's where I'll chronicle the whole mess!
